Divemaster CDC Curriculum

The Career Development Course is open to all - no need to be a certified diver - and there are only a few prerequisites:
  • You must be 18 or older
  • You must have a medical statement signed by your physician stating you are fit for diving (contact us for a standard medical statement),
  • And you MUST love water and the remote rural African vibe life style!

During your Career Development Course you will go through all the necessary PADI courses and certifications for you to become a Divemaster or Instructor. During the first 2 months of your internship you will complete these courses:

  • PADI Open Water Diver, the entry level certification, allowing you to dive up to 18m without professional help.
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, the next level, fine tuning your skills, learning about and experiencing several other kinds of diving.
  • Emergency First Response provider, where you’ll learn live saving skills, how to provide basic life support CPR, primary and secondary care…
  • PADI Rescue Diver, teaching you how to rescue panicked, tired, breathing
    and non-breathing unconscious divers.

When you are not busy studying or practicing skills, you will be asked to help around the Dive Camp and Dive centre like any other staff member would: give equipment out to guests, carry cylinders, keep the dive centre clean, help around with repairs and construction work, and anything to ensure guests are having a pleasant stay like joining in to evening conversations and various activities.

After you will have completed these four first courses, your primary focus will be your PADI Divemaster course (over the last month of internship). During this course, you will:

  • Learn about the values of being a role model around other certified and student divers,
  • Take responsibility for yourself and others welfare,
  • Build up diving experience as well as people skills and general knowledge,
  • Start guiding dives under your instructors supervision,
  • Assist instructors with courses,
  • And become a part of the crew!

By the end of this 3 month internship, you will have learnt everything you will need to be a qualified and professional PADI Divemaster.

Instructor CDC Curriculum

Should you wish to continue onto your Instructor course, we offer another 3 months internship to prepare you for your IDC and IE. You will get to practice all your Divemaster skills and get given new responsibilities before embarking on a new demanding course:

  • Lead dives with certified divers on your own
  • Be in charge of boat trips
  • Supervise students with an instructor

These will allow you to master your skills, be excellent, feel more prepared and confident in your aptitudes for your IDC and IE.

Amongst these new qualifications and responsibilities, you will:

  • become qualified to operate an air compressor and fill cylinders,
  • become an equipment technician, learn how to service diving gear.
  • you could even get your skippers license (extra cost)

All these will allow you to become more employable and make you stand out throughout the diving community.

When the time comes for you to do your IDC and IE, you will train for one week with a Course Director and then show and apply your knowledge, professionalism and skills during a scheduled IE with a Course Examiner.

New Instructor internship

Now you are a new instructor, you will need to build up experience in teaching in order to look professional and feel confident in your newly learnt skills (during your IDC and IE). Why not stay at Devocean for a while and practice what you got to learn over the last months. Contact us to find out about terms and conditions for this internship.
